Course Overview

About this course

The Specialist Diploma in Robotics & Automation (Robotics Application) aims to equip trainees with the following critical knowledge and skills in Robotics & Automation:

  1. • To provide trainees with hands-on practical experience in Robotics & Automation fundamentals.
  2. • To provide relevant technical knowledge and skillsets in the field of advanced robotics application to meet the current and future requirements of advanced manufacturing industry.

What you'll learn

  1. Singapore Economic Development Board (“EDB”) launched the Smart Industry Readiness Index4 (“SIRI”) to help companies to start, scale and sustain their Industry 4.0 initiatives. Under this framework where technology is part of the key building blocks of industry 4.0, automation was identified as a critical pillar and in fact, automation has been and will continue to be a key enabler for advanced manufacturing. The role of automation is evolving and to cope with rising demand for smaller batches and on-demand production, it is no longer sufficient to simply maximize efficiency. To adapt quickly to changing market requirements, automation needs to be flexible, robots become smarter (with AI, ML and sensor technologies) to cope with a far greater degree of task-to-task variability.
  2. The targeted job roles are in the manufacturing sector ranging from Technicians /Technologists/Specialists/Coordinators to Supervisors/Managers/Engineers5-6.
  3. The competencies and skillsets acquired will equip trainees to program, operate and maintain robotic automation system which is the building block of a flexible manufacturing system7 (FMS).
  4. In the next five to ten years, there will be an even more fundamental shift in the kind of tasks for which robots become both technically and economically viable to be put side-by-side with people and reallocating tasks between them; enhancing productivity, providing flexibility and improving efficiency.
